schools, and order materials from the KIDS VOTING
office. Each school should establish where curriculum
will be taught (AA, Social Studies, other alternatives
determined at individual schools).

Constitution Day, Anniversary of the final ratification

Continental Congress, September 17, 1787.
Consider classroom or school wide event(s) to excite
students about voting. Ideas include a pep rally, a
play, activities listed in #2 above, school wide
registration in younger grades, debates in upper grades,
or anything else that you think will work with your
lesson plans and schedule. This is a good area in which
to enlist help from the PTA. |

KICK OFF the KIDS VOTING election season
1. Hold Voter
Registration for students
2. Consider other
ways to celebrate our country’s freedom and democracy,
such as by using the Wish Tree activity (Classroom
Activities K-5); having Red, White & Blue Day; or
planning a special class or school program. Inform
KIDS VOTING office for possible media coverage of any
special activities. This is a great time to
encourage older students to perform some type of
community service.
If age appropriate, consider sending home
letter to help students
identify correct precinct.

general election

Receive sample ballot from KIDS VOTING; familiarize

Send registration forms and reminders to vote home with
elementary and middle school students. Consider
sending copies of ballot home now or earlier.

ELECTION DAY 2008 – The KIDS VOTING polls will be
open from 6:30am – 7:30pm.
This is the same as the adult poll hours.

Use election results in a wrap-up activity (results on
